Meet the Team
Kate Bradley Head of Foundation - Kate's career in the third sector started after university when she worked for the Princes' Trust in London. She then returned to the North-East to take up a post at a regional third sector infrastructure organisation and subsequently was appointed as Development Manager at The Community Foundation. Kate has a History degree from Leeds University and an MSc at Northumbria University in Urban Policy and Regeneration.
Steve Beharall, Operations Manager - Steve joined the Foundation in September 2016, taking up the new position of Operation’s Manager. Steve has almost 20 years’ experience in football and sports development, starting his career at the Newcastle Football Development Scheme before moving to the Newcastle School Sport Partnership. He spent three years leading the Newcastle PE & School Sport Service, supporting local schools to evidence the impact of PE and Sport. Steve has also been a consultant to the Youth Sport Trust in the region, providing challenge and support for colleagues in developing programmes and strategies to embed physical activity within a school setting. Steve is also a UEFA B qualified football coach.
David Parker Finance Manager - David trained as a Chartered Accountant with a national accountancy firm in Bristol, where he worked with a number of charities. After qualifying he returned to his native north-east to work in the charities team of a leading local independent accountancy practice. Following this he worked as the Financial Controller at a property auction house before joining the Foundation in June 2016.
Sarah Medcalf Development Manager - Sarah is responsible for major donors and corporate fundraising for the Foundation. She has a BSoc (Hons) Social Policy and Institute of Fundraising Certificate of Fundraising Management.
Katie Tasker Operations Coordinator - Katie has worked with the Foundation since 2009 and has over 10 year's administrative experience. She previously worked for Newcastle City Council.
Yvette Thompson Communications Manager - Yvette has over 10 year’s experience in sports communications and events. Yvette works with the Foundation on a freelance basis covering Commuications, Business Engagement and Fundraising.
Kelly Foster Fundraising Officer - Kelly is responsible for the fundraising activities at the Foundation. She has just recently graduated from Northumbria University where she studied Communications and Public Relations. Kelly previously worked at RMP Enterprise in London and Walt Disney World, Florida.
Football and Sports Participation
Andy Dobby Football Development Officer - Andy has eight years of coaching and project management experience. His role at the Foundation is to oversee the planning, coordination and delivery of high quality football coaching in schools. In addition, Andy is also a Lead Coach at Newcastle United Academy.
Lisa Bell Senior Project Coordinator - Lisa has worked for Newcastle United Foundation for 6 years and has 10 year's experience in football development. She previously worked for Newcastle City Council as part of their football development team.
Reggie Dornan Senior Football Development Officer (Disability) - Reggie is a UEFA Level 4, “A“ Licence Coach, and has an IFA Level 2 Coaching Disabled Footballers Award. He is Head Coach for the Ireland National Deaf Team, playing in the Deaflympics. He has worked for Newcastle United Foundation for 3 ½ years.
Mark Daglish Football Development Officer (Disability) - Mark works on the FA's Disability Workforce Fund project. He has 10 year’s coaching experience and has worked on programmes including School Coaching, Disability Coaching, Futsal Coaching, Grassroots Coaching and Advanced Coaching Programme.
Tony Threlfall Football Development Officer (Community)- Tony has been with the Foundation for 5 years working on a variety of our programmes. He has been coaching for 8 years, holds the UEFA 'B' licence and has completed the FA Youth Modules. He also coaches for Newcastle United in their Development Centres throughout the North East.
Martin Herdman Football Development Officer (Community) - UEFA B holder Martin has held various coaching roles including Hartlepool academy U13 coach, Futsal coach and coaching roles in Canada and New Zealand within national team environment. He has also worked as a support worker helping people with disabilities to increase community involvement.
Andrew Foster Schools Partnership Manager - Andrew has been with the Foundation for 5 years and manages all education projects. He has a BA (Hons) Sports Development and Coaching (2:1), he is a qualified post compulsory education teacher (Cert Ed.) and holds FA Level 2 Coaching, FA Youth Module One Certificate, Emergency 1st Aid, Safeguarding and Health and Safety Level 1.
Liam Atkin Schools Partnership Coordinator - UEFA B holder Liam has eight years of coaching and project management experience. His role at the Foundation is to work in North Tyneside to promote, plan, deliver and monitor high quality coaching programmes in schools, sports venues and community venues. To increase participation among participants of all abilities. In addition to this he runs our ‘Coach The Coach’ course at Newcastle College.
Peter Jackson Area Development Officer - Peter is the ADO for Newcastle Upon Tyne and supports the running of the boys Advanced Coaching Programme. Peter currently holds his youth module 2 and FA level 2 and has recently been awarded his UEFA 'B' licence. He is working towards his youth module 3 and AFPE award. He is head coach of Walbottle Sixth Form in the Northumberland U19 schools league and works with NUFC Development centres U6, U7 and U9 age groups.
Jill Stacey Area Development Officer - Jill is the ADO for Gateshead. She has been coaching for 10 years whilst studying, after graduating she worked in Secondary Education for four years. Jill has a BsC Hons Sports Science & Coaching Degree from Leeds Met.
Paul Robinson Community Coach - Paul has been part of the Foundation team for 18 months working within the Northumberland team as well as coaching with TyneMet College 3 times a week. His qualifications include level 2 coaching football, youth modules 1 and 2 along with Futsal level 1. Paul plans to take his UEFA 'B' in the near future.
Phil Welford Community Coach (P/T) - Phil holds various qualifications including Coaching Disabled Footballer, various Youth awards and is a qualified FA Level 3 and UEFA 'B' Coach. He previously worked in the construction industry and holds the awards of Ordinary National Certificate and Higher National Certificate in The Built Environment.
Ashley Royston Community Coach - Ashley has been coaching since the age of 16. He started coaching at Barnsley FC with the foundation and academy gaining his level 1 & 2 in coaching as well as level 1 & 2 youth modules. His previous coaching clubs are Doncaster Rovers, Notts County, as well as Leeds United as a video analyst coach. He has recently graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University gaining a degree in Sports Coaching. Ashley is currently enrolled in his UEFA 'B' license.
Alex Curran Community Coach - Alex is a UEFA 'B' Licence coach and has worked for the Foundation in the Newcastle team for 2 years. He started as a sessional community coach before becoming full time last year and has over 10 years of experience working with grassroots clubs in both a goalkeeping and outfield capacity.
Andrew Johnston Community Coach - Andrew is a Level 2 full time community coach. He also coaches the U11s boys advanced and U9s girls PDC. He previously worked in PE at Churchill Community College.
Robbie Welch Community Coach - Robbie has over 9 year’s experience working within the local community engaging various age groups and has coached in different countries such as USA, Nigeria, Sweden and Ireland. Robbie is also a level 2 qualified teaching assistant and is currently working towards his UEFA 'B' licence.
Sam Little Community Coach - Sam has worked for various coaching companies and has also spent time coaching in Spain. He has over 10 years coaching experience and holds his Football Level 2, Youth Module Level 2 and Degree in Sports Coaching & Science.
Ben Asquith Community Coach - Ben is a full time community coach and holds FA level 1 & 2, Level 1 disability coaching and FA Youth module 1 badges. He is awaiting assessment for his UEFA 'B' badge and is also a Powerchair football coach.
Ross Flintoft Community Coach - Ross has 8 years of coaching experience within the Foundation, working with various ages and abilities. He holds FA Level 1,2,3 (UEFA 'B') and FA Youth Modules 1,2 and 3. Ross is lead coach of the boys Advanced group U13/U14s and Girls Player Development Centre U15s. He also is head coach of Newcastle University Women's First Team.
Alex Nicholson Community Coach - Alex has worked for the Foundation since September 2014, starting as a part time coach and now in a full time role. He came through the Newcastle United academy and also played for Preston North End.
Chris Kilburn Community Coach - Chris has been coaching since 2009. He holds the FA Level 2 Coaching Certificate, Youth Awards 1 & 2 and Level 1 Disability Coaching Qualifcation. Chris earned his BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Coaching Science degree at Newcastle College where he researched Leadership within football.
Andy Inness Community Coach - Andy started with the Foundation as a sessional coach 2 years ago. He holds FA level 2 and youth modules 1 & 2 and has recently passed his UEFA B license. He has worked in various grassroots clubs and is currently junior development officer for Spennymoor Town Youth Academy.
Shayan Gazerani Community Coach - Shayan has 10 year's coaching experience in different sports. He holds BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Coaching Science, level 2 coaching football, youth modules (1- 2) and level 1 Coaching Disabled Footballers Award . His next goal is to gain the UEFA 'B' licence and continue his development further.
Joe Deverdics Community Coach - Joe has worked for the Foundation for 2 years and was our first Apprentice. He holds the FA Level 1Coaching Certificate and is currently working towards FA Level 2. Joe also and holds an IFA Level 2 Coaching Disabled Footballers Award.

Tony Wigham – Community Coach - Tony started with the Foundation after five years living and coaching in America. Tony oversaw the development of programmes and participation in Ohio and Kentucky across a range of age groups. He also worked with the Youth Olympic Development Programme in the region and played for Cincinnati Saints. Previously in England, Tony coached locally and at Salford University where he gained a degree in Sports and Leisure Management. He is FA Level 2 qualified and holds his FA Youth Module 1.
Rob Hodgson Community Coach - Rob has become an apprentice Community Coach having progressed through the Newcastle College Coach the Coach programme and currently holds his FA level 1 coaching and goalkeeping awards.
Lee Blackburn Community Coach - Lee recently joined the foundation as an apprentice Community Coach through the Newcastle College Coach the Coach programme. Lee currently holds his level 1 coaching certificate and has completed his youth module 1 & 2 awards. Lee is also studying for a Sport Coaching and Development foundation degree.
Codie Nichols Apprentice Community Coach - Codie played football on the Foundation Girls Centre of Excellence from age 12. She finished a Level 3 in Sport and Fitness at Tynemet College in June 2016 and will continue to study at Tynemet during her Apprenticeship year. Codie has a Level 1, Youth Module 1 and Referee Award.
Gavin Ferry Project Coordinator (Toon Times) - Gavin has been at Newcastle United Foundation for 4 years starting with our Enterprise programme and most recently coordinating the Toon Times heritage project. Past experience has seen Gavin work in secondary and prison based education.
Oliver Bell Project Officer - Oliver has a large amount of experience in conducting sport science research and specifically nutritional interventions and extra time performance in amateur footballers. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Exercise and Nutrition and is currently completing a Masters of Research in Exercise Science.
Andrew Johnson Project Officer - Andrew has over 9 years of experience working in schools and communities previously working as a teaching assistant. Andrew holds his FA leve 2 coaching qualifications.
Carl Chater Project Officer- Carl recently joined the Foundation to deliver the Byker United project. He has his FA level 2, youth module Level 1 and is currently completing a Sports Coaching degree at the University of Sunderland. Carl has many years experience coaching football and other sports related activities.
Gareth Williams – Project Officer - Gareth has over 15 years experience working in schools and the community as a Teaching Assistant and football coach. Gareth previously worked for Football in the Community before the Foundation was founded and most recently worked at Thomas Walling Primary school. Gareth holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate and is primarily working on our secondary school education programmes Five Aside and Enterprise.
Adam Herczeg - Project Officer - Adam started working for the foundation in 2016. He graduated from Northumbria University with a First Class honours degree in Sport Management. His background is predominantly volunteering at Gateshead Redheugh 1957, but has undertaken international voluntary work in Zambia and Rwanda. He is also a member of The FA National Game Youth Council for 2015-2016.
Steve Mack Project Manager - Steve joined the Foundation as a sessional member of staff in 2010 delivering on the Premier League funded Kicks Programme. Previously Steve had served in the British Army as well as working at Nissan UK. Steve is a qualified Youth worker with a degree in Social Care.
Laura Wilson Project Coordinator - Laura has worked for the Foundation since September 2013 after graduating from Northumbria University. She has worked in the sports sector for 5 years and has a passion for using sport to change lives of young people she works with.
Mick Woods Project Officer - Michael is an experienced football coach with a UEFA 'B' licence. He is using his skill to coach and mentor unemployed young people into work, training or employment.
Lewis Shields – Project Coordinator - Lewis Coordinates the Onside project, helping young people affected by violence. He previously worked at Mental Health Concern (Moving Forward Link Worker) and Ingeus (Employment Advisor). He has an FA Level 2 plus qualifications in Conflict Management and Information Advice and Guidance and a National Certificate in Sports Performance and Excellent. Lewis is a lifelong Newcastle United fan and also likes Rock Climbing.
Daniel Hancock - Project Coordinator - Daniel Coordinated Premier League Works. He used to work at Skills-Share International (ICS Team leader), Leeds United Foundation (NCS Team Leader) Asda (Ambient Supply Manager). He has an FA Level 1 and is enrolled on Level 2. Also a lifelong fan!
Ashley Lowe – Health Project Co-ordinator - Ashley is a Level 3 Personal Trainer with qualifications in Children’s Exercise and GP Referral as well as a BA Hons Degree in Counselling and a Diploma in Management. She co-ordinates a variety of health projects including, Sexual Health Education, Men’s Health and Fitness programmes, Walking Football and Health checks
