AWAY THE LASSES - A conversation with Newcastle United Women's Jess Spark

Newcastle United Women picked up another away win over the weekend, emerging 3-0 victors over Barnsley Women's Football Club in the FA Women's National League Division One North.

At the beginning of the season, Arnold Clark provided the United Women with a team minibus to ensure they could travel to and from away fixtures with ease.

Ahead of their next away trip taking them to West Yorkshire to face Bradford City, defender Jess Spark revealed exactly what an away fixture entails for Becky Langley's squad...

How do you keep busy on the bus?

Spark: "We normally just play games and sometimes have a quiz. Also, every new signing has to perform an initiation and that's always a good laugh to watch."

How significant is having a team minibus?

Spark: "It can create a constant environment for away days; it's part of our routine and can get us prepared for the match. It is also somewhere we can have a laugh together and bond as a team."

What is your go-to meal for an away-day?

Spark: "I always have to go for a little meal deal. I would go for a chicken wrap or sandwich, smoothie, and a packet of cheese and onion crisps."

Who is the biggest joker?

Spark: "The biggest joker is Grace (Donnelly). She'll always have a funny reply to anything anyone says. She can talk to everyone in the team and will boost everyone's mood."

Who is the smartest player?

Spark: "The smartest player is probably Beth (Guy). She knows everything that's going on around her on and off the pitch."

Who controls the pre-match playlist?

Spark: "The pre-match playlist is either Brooke (Cochrane)'s or Georgia (Gibson)'s music."

Who is most likely to argue over an away-day quiz?

Spark: "Georgia is probably the most likely to argue over a quiz. When we played Chorley away in the FA Cup we had a Christmas quiz on the bus, and when we stopped at the services, we were allowed to take our answer sheets with us. Georgia is convinced that the winning team cheated, but we didn't!"

Newcastle United Women help inspire hundreds of young women and girls taking opportunities to forge a future career in football through pathways into sport with Newcastle United Foundation.

Since officially becoming part of the Foundation in 2017, the squad regularly support coaching sessions, football courses, festivals and fun days across the North East offered through the charity's dedicated Women's and Girls' Football Development Programme.

We're absolutely delighted to support the Newcastle United Foundation by donating a minibus that allows the women's team to travel to and from away games. Everyone at Arnold Clark wishes the team all the very best for the rest of the season.
