Eight primary schools and six secondary schools – part of the Foundation’s Partner Schools programme – were brought together from across the region for the event in June.
As well as each child receiving a new 2026/27 season Newcastle United kit to wear during the tournament and to take home as a memento of the day, teams enjoyed a memorable football experience at the club’s Academy.
Every participant was awarded a medal for taking part, with the 1892 Cup presented to the winning boys’ and girls’ teams in the secondary tournament, and a mixed team in the primary tournament.
Byker Primary School won the primary tournament, with Gosforth Junior High Academy securing both the boys’ and girls’ secondary tournament.
Andy Foster, Newcastle United Foundation Managing Director, said: “The 1892 Cup is a brilliant way to bring our schools community together and start the new season with a day full of proud support for Newcastle United.
“For many of the young people taking part, playing at Newcastle United’s Academy and receiving their own 2026/27 kit is an experience they will remember for a long time, and one that helps strengthen their connection to the club and their community.
“With support from Newcastle United Football Club, adidas, the Premier League and Harrison Foundation, we’re proud to create moments like this that celebrate young people and open up meaningful opportunities across the North East.”
Newcastle United Foundation’s education team engages with more than 140 primary and secondary schools across the North East each year, delivering curriculum-based activities inside and outside the classroom, furthering the impact of Newcastle United in the community.
