Newcastle United Foundation has launched an ambitious new three-year strategy setting out how the charity will help people and communities across Newcastle and the North East to thrive from 2026 to 2029.

The strategy defines a clear vision for a thriving Newcastle and North East where everyone the Foundation meets has the opportunity to succeed.

The plan follows the successful completion of a previous three-year business plan – highlights from last season alone include 60,000 hours of session delivery, 633 young people and adults progressing into employment and the Foundation providing education support in 93 North East schools.

Our 2026 – 2029 Strategy at a glance

Newcastle United Foundation generates an estimated £30.9 million in social value – equating to £7 of social benefit for every £1 invested – highlighting real and lasting positive impact created for the region.

Building on almost two decades of community delivery, the 2026 – 2029 strategy focuses on increasing the depth and sustainability of the Foundation’s impact, directing support to the people and places where it is needed most, as well as strengthening the organisation behind its work.

The Foundation’s ambitions will be delivered through three strategic goals:

  • Thriving Communities – bringing new opportunities and targeted support to communities where it can make the greatest difference
  • Empowering Learners – equip more children and young people with the confidence, skills and support they need to build brighter futures
  • Healthy Body and Mind – inspire people of all ages to move more, feel better and live healthier lives for longer

Alongside frontline delivery, the strategy sets out how Newcastle United Foundation will strengthen the partnerships, facilities, people, income and systems that make lasting community impact possible.

The Foundation will deepen its strategic partnership with Newcastle United, connecting supporters closely with the charity’s purpose.

Investment in facilities will help the Foundation create accessible and sustainable spaces for communities, developing existing venues to generate more income to be reinvested back into the community.

The strategy also supports an inclusive, skilled and confident workforce with new technology, data and impact systems providing clearer evidence of progress.

Steve Beharall, Newcastle United Foundation CEO, said: “Our new strategy is rooted in the needs, strengths and ambitions of the communities we serve.

“Over the next three years, we will focus our resources where they can make the greatest difference – helping communities thrive, giving learners the confidence and skills to succeed and supporting people to lead healthier, happier lives.

“The power of Newcastle United and the passion for football across our region give us an extraordinary platform to connect with people. By working closely with the club, our partners, supporters and communities, we can turn that connection into meaningful and lasting change.

“As we approach the Foundation’s 20th year, this strategy gives us a clear direction for our next chapter. It is ambitious, measurable and focused on ensuring everyone we meet has the opportunity to succeed.”
